In honor of being married one year. . . And, this idea going viral (over 5 million views) on Instagram. . .
Here are some things that we did, we loved and wish more couples would do…
Private Dinner
We had dinner just the two of us and it was one of our favorite parts of the day. As a professional, I see so many couples not have time to eat because guests interrupt and not have time just the two of them. We opted to take 15-20 minutes to eat, tell each other about our days and just really enjoy being alone as newly weds. (Our venue had a house with a dining room, but you could have a table set up in a bridal suite, it’s not about the location)
Signature Scents
Instead of wedding gifts for one another, we both secretly picked out cologne/perfume for one another. On the night before the wedding, we gave them to each other. We now only wear that scent on anniversaries.
A Quick Hello
After we had our private dinner, we went to each table as guests were finishing their meals to say hello. They weren’t long conversations, but just enough to say hi and thank you for coming. That way, you know you got to see each and every person that took the time (and money) to come to your wedding. Be prepared to be quick and have to say to guests, “I would love to talk more, but I want to get to say hi to everyone.” We got so many compliments on this and it was so fun!
Dance Lessons
It was intimidating at first, but it was so much fun! It forced us to have date nights when life got crazy right before the wedding. We didn’t tell anyone, so all our guests were surprised and now we have cool dance moves to show off randomly. Even if you mess up, pretend you didn’t! No one will know you messed up except your dance instructor (who most likely won’t even be at your reception 😉)
